Please consult your doctor before engaging on any fitness regime.

Remember to go for QUALITY over quantity. If you are unclear what the exercise is, look for a video or arrange for an in-person tutorial with me (mollie@ptmollie.com).

Ruth Field, aka The Grit Doctor and author of Run Fat Bitch Run, is providing us with a workout, quote, and recipe today. Big thanks for Ruth for showing us some grit.  Visit her on gritdoctor.wordpress.com and/or follow her on Twitter @gritdoctor.

Whatever the weather is like today: be it bitterly cold, raining, even snowing - consider it all to be a bonus feature to your workout which consists of a 45 minute jog.  The more brutal the conditions, the bigger the payoff when you return.  You are going to feel INCREDIBLE so just go at the first available opportunity today irrespective of what the weather is doing and the fact that it may well be the last thing you want to do.  Do it anyway.  You can enjoy a huge portion of my pasta dish upon your return, ideally within 2 hours of completing your run.

There is no weather that can stand between you and your run.  Get some grit and get out there.

This is a dish I tried to recreate from a meal I ate in Rome.  It is completely un-Christmassy which is precisely the point.  It is very cheap to make and packs a proper punch...

For two: Gently fry 3 large cloves of chopped garlic and 1 large red chile chopped (medium strength) in a smidgen of olive oil, and set aside.  Boil a whole head of broccoli for 5-7 mins and then mash (either with a potato masher or blender) Add 2 tablespoons of ricotta cheese and a large handful of chopped fresh parsley (optional) and season to taste.  Mix it into the al dente pasta (any type of pasta will do, but I find the fat tubular ones work best with this sauce).  Add extra olive oil if desired/consistency demands.  Sprinkle on some parmesan....
