What can I say? @visitjerseyci has captured my heart. 💕

Once I got a grip on the bus system (ask for a transfer ticket), the postcodes (what3words is better), and the wind (pack a hat and gloves), the sea views took a hold of me. The tides made it difficult to go for a swim so i focused on exploring by foot instead. 🥾

Sadly parkrun had to be a walk because i forgot my sports bra. But the good news is that this contributed to my National 3 Peaks training, as did a 7km beach walk on Sunday. 🐚

The real purpose of my visit was to attend Paddle UK's Coastal Navigation and Tidal Planning course which was provided by @jersey.kayak.adventures . They even have an affordable in-law apartment to hire for the weekend and it was also where the course was held. Derek, the owner, has literally written a book about paddling around the Channel Islands and has immense knowledge about local organizations and suppliers I should contact in prep for my 2025 adventure. 🚩

He also had poignant questions such as:

-Am I trying to break a record or complete it in one day? (he has kayaked around the island in about 5 hours)
-Am I camping or will I have one base on the island?
-Can i mix up the segments or am I going in order around the island?
-Will I be self supported?
-What time of year am I thinking of completing it?

My brain is now churning with more research and planning, as well as the physical training I need to do. Up until now, most of my adventures have been part of a tour or group. It is a bit exciting and nerve wracking to leave all the details up to me. 🤯

If you have ever planned your adventure, what details do you think where the most important for success? Let me know!

Here is my budget airline hack!.

Wear a fishing vest. 🎣

While I didn't have to wear it going to Jersey, the stewards on the way back said I could only have 1 bag. Luckily, my vest was packed and ready to go. 🦺

I originally bought it for Japan, as I could only pack one small suitcase (I ended up with two a d left one in Tokyo while I traveled to other cities). It is from eBay and made of a heavy canvas. Pretty sure it will make me boil on the airplane. A new one with more pockets and lighter material is about £20. If I keep taking budget flights (not sure I will due to carbon impact), it may be worth investing in a more suitable set up. 💸

What other budget airline hacks do you have? ✈️ Let me know in the comments below. 😁

Show me the data!

Today's blog post is about @suunto Race, which was released in October 2023. I have been testing on out since January during the last half of marathon training, then during a cold which lasted 2.5 weeks and now for National 3 Peaks prep. #adventurestartshere

Are all GPS watches created the same?

While I am not a super-techy person, my background is in science. I love all the data the Suunto Race gives me. From my heart rate variability to sleep quality to training progress, I can decide when to push myself or when I need a day of rest.

And it has a compass as well as the usual Suunto map features. Who is ready to go outdoors and explore with me?

Spin studios never have good lighting! 😂

I just taught my third our if five spin classes in 25 hours. Maybe next time I agree to cover shifts, I should look at my diary! My members at @pumpgymshatfield brought the energy though and now I am buzzing.

Tomorrow morning, I am back at @kingscross.fitness for 6:30am Performance and 7:30am Freestyle. This is my regular shift, so please do book in for a session soon. First one is on me 😁

Share with me some playlist inspiration. What is your favorite song to spin to?

Happy Sunday. I have been quiet on here as I am fighting a cold while working during the week. I also covered an extra spin class shift so been trying to catch up on sleep.

It is hard to know how much to rest while I am I'll and not loose my fitness. In theory, I should run a half marathon next week and be training for the National Three Peaks with long hills walk. I haven't run in two weeks but did climb Arthur's Seat twice last weekend.

Maple and I are headed out on a gentle 5k walk now if the wind doesn't stop us in our tracks. There is sunshine so it seems a waste to stay indoors today.

How are you feeling? Have you caught the lurgy that has been going around?

Spring seems to have sprung- finally! After a lovely weekend in Edinburgh with two hikes up Arthur's Seat, I now have a better idea of what I need to wear and do to prepare for my National 3 Peaks challenge with @outdooradventuregirlsuk .

I got very hot climbing Arthur's Seat, so figuring out my layers are a must. Hiking poles would have been helpful too (These will require practice for using efficiently). I wore my old @salomon GTX hiking boots in Scotland but I think these X Ultra 360 Edge Mid GTX #gifted will provide me with better grip and more ankle support. Plus the upper of the boot is made of 48% recycled materials. Love a bit of sustainability!

My aim is to walk 4 miles on the weekdays and a bit farther on the weekends over the next 3 months. Plenty of time to break these beauties in! Part of my training includes the Surrey 3 Peaks in April, summitting Snowdonia in May, and @wildgoatfestival back-to-back hikes.

While I didn't see much improvement in my physical fitness over the 4 months of marathon training, I really hope the strength training aspect of my 3 Peaks preparation will help me find myself again.

There was definitely sunshine in Hastings today for the 40th annual Hastings Half. I signed up last minute to fulfill my additional raffle entry to win a Boston Marathon 2025 entry.

When I looked at the event website, the course was described as hilly and they were not lying! (they also warned about potholes and there were many of those too). What really helped me along the way were all the people cheering the runners on (and handing out jelly babies). I can't tell you how many high 5s I got or how many dogs were along the course. It was also neat to see people ready with their spare change to give to the runners with charity buckets.

Overall, it was probably one of my worst 1/2 marathon times BUT I was able spend time with my friend, Becs, and her family; smell the salty sea air; get a (horse) brass instead of a medal, which was a first. I even treated myself to a bit of leather to hang it with. With a very angry periformis post-race, I may also have to treat myself to a sports massage this week.

If you love running up and over hills or do best with everyone cheering you on or love to dook in the sea after a long run, this is the race for you. I suggest printing your first name on your shirt for an extra boost. Loads of people were shouting my number as I passed.

Thank you to the residents of Hastings, as well as their Lions Club, for an unforgettable day.

Ya'll know how much i love my @on kit. With marathon training over with, I finally had some time to join their London Run Club for a special run out of their Regents Street store co-hosted by @coros_uk ⌚

We took a short run to Regents Park for a tempo run around the inner circle. It was 6+km all together (see my Strava for the route). I was super happy to see many familiar faces, as well as make some new running buddies. There was lots of marathon talk, from the mental srrength of people who take 6 hours to finish a race to how to get an entry to the different World Marathon Major races. 🏃🏻‍♀️

The evening ended with a male and female raffle prize of head to toe ON kit and a Coros GPS watch. We also enjoyed @vitaminwell water to rehydrate. 💧

From the research I have done, the Coros watch is a great price for what you get. Now, they also offer a separate heart rate monitor (HRM) that can be worn on your bicep, forearm, or wrist. It can pair via Bluetooth to any device and up to 3 different ones at the same time. My favorite detail is that it is rechargeable (no batteries required). Hopefully I will be able to try one out soon and let you know what I think. 🫀

Do you run witb a GPS watch and/or HRM or do you prefer a 'naked' run?
